For more than 150 years, the American Correctional Association (ACA) has championed the cause of corrections and correctional effectiveness. At NDCS we’re proud to partner in this important work.

NDCS representatives from multiple facilities accepted re-accreditation certificates at the ACA Winter Conference. The accreditation includes a series of reviews, evaluations, audits and hearings – all aimed to verify that agencies and facilities comply with ACA’s national standards. These represent fundamental correctional practices, such as ensuring the safety of staff and the population, enhancing staff morale, and improving...Read more

Class 123 is completing week four of pre-service training, and as we follow along with this group it seems fitting to give a shout out to the training specialists at the Staff Training Academy (STA) and all the teammates who support this important work.

STA is the place where new teammates learn how to be effective corrections professionals – from classroom learning, hands-on skills and the example their training instructors set. Many careers and long-lasting friendships have begun here. No matter the role or the facility, STA has touched every NDCS teammate in some way! #Class123

Transitional living provides a supportive environment where individuals can concentrate on the things that will ultimately lead to becoming self-sufficient – and it can be the key to success for many men and women who are reentering the community.

This month, the Omaha Correctional Center (OCC) invited transitional living organizations from across Nebraska to the facility for a reentry roundtable event. Men at OCC met with these organizations to learn about resources available to them. It was fantastic to see so many individuals excited about creating a plan that will lead to their future success!

Teammates at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) proved that they have some serious baking skills! The Valentine’s Day bake sale brought together staff throughout the facility – both to contribute sweet treats and to take some home. To top it off, proceeds supported the TSCI Employee Activity Committee and an upcoming teammate appreciation barbecue they are planning. Nice work, TSCI!Read more

At NDCS, we’re always looking for ways to recognize team members who go the extra mile, and Unit Caseworker Nathan Abbott is one of those teammates!

Nathan is a positive role model at the Omaha Correctional Center (OCC) and respected among his peers for the professionalism he brings to the job every day. No matter what the day holds, he is highly adaptable and goes above and beyond to support the agency’s mission. His efforts don’t go unnoticed – he was recently awarded OCC Teammate of the Quarter.

Congratulations and thank you for your commitment to NDCS! #TeammateTuesdayRead more

Teammates who are part of NDCS special teams don’t work for the recognition, but there is no doubt that they deserve it. Last week, NDCS held its annual Special Teams Awards Ceremony at the Staff Training Academy. The teams are always ready to respond when called, and it was a privilege to take some time and thank these men and women for their commitment and willingness to go the extra mile!

Members of all NDCS special teams – the Corrections Emergency Response Team (CERT), Special Operations Response Team (SORT), Crisis Negotiator Team (CNT), Staff Empowerment and Resiliency/Victim Education and Support (SERVES) and the...Read more

This week Class 123 learned about all the ways they can support men and women in our facilities who are transitioning back to the community. Reentry Specialists Dylan Eckery and Tyler Ladd talked with the group about how the work of reentry truly takes an agency-wide effort!

One of the great parts of pre-service training is the chance to ask questions, and this class had plenty of subject-matter experts to interact with throughout the week. They also spent a full day gaining knowledge and hands-on practice in CPR, AED and first aid.

With week three in the books for Class 123, this cohort is nearing the halfway...Read more
