Over 200 inmates took the opportunity to make cards for loved ones. The Diagnostic and Evaluation Center (DEC) has a multitude of talented artists and they were able to put their talents to good work. The cards were sent out to friends and family during the holidays.

On December 11, 2018, the Omaha Correctional Center (OCC) held its 4th quarter Staff Recognition Ceremony. Officer Brian Waldecker was awarded the Employee of the quarter. Sgt. Justin Spackman was awarded the annual 'Making a Difference' award. First Plymouth Choir performed at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) religious center on December 17, 2018. The 40+ member choir performed twice, which allowed for approximately 150 inmates to attend. A big thank you to First Plymouth Choir from everyone at NDCS!Read more

Eight ladies from the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW) completed the EMPWR class presented by Ruth Karlsson's Release and Restore program.

EMPWR showed these women that they do not have to be defined by their crime. They learned how to improve their self-image, how to reduce negative effects from both physical and cognitive triggers, and discovered many other self-improvement techniques that will help them become valuable contributors to the community. IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Community Correctional Center of Omaha (CCC-O) Sergeant Elliot Schmit begins his day ensuring that all facility keys are accounted for.

Elliot has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since 2016. Although supervision of staff and inmates are his main duties, Elliot has numerous other lateral duties and responsibilities at CCC-O.

Fun was had by all as the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW) held a decorating contest among the different units. Each unit enjoyed working together in designing and decorating their area.Read more

Eight incarcerated individuals participated in a Holiday Celebration at the Nebraska State Office Building (NSOB). They were joined by staff members Cpl. Sparks, Cpl. Ogorzolka and Warden West. Food and dessert was enjoyed by all!Read more

The Community Justice Center (CJC) completed its 76 th Restorative Justice Intervention (RJI) “Crime Victims Impact/Empathy" class at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) in December. Seventy-five percent of those who took part rated the class as excellent.

One of the participants remarked, “This workshop really helped me clarify the impact my crime had on everything. Family, friends and the public.” Another participant said that by taking part “you see how you hurt everyone, not just one person.”
