We were extremely honored to have hosted Daniel Martinez earlier this week at NSP as he performed two back-to-back guitar concerts. Approximately 135 incarcerated individuals had the unique experience to hear Martinez’s flamenco-styled guitar music, paid for in part by a mini grant through the Nebraska Arts Council. https://www.artscouncil.nebraska.gov/grants/grant-categories/

Good work from Cornhusker State Industries (CSI). The people who work here develop new skills and gain crucial work experience as they prepare for reentry into the community.

From CSI:

CSI manufactured most of the furnishings for the new, state of the art, 160-bed female living unit at the Community Corrections Center-Lincoln (CCC-L). NDCS Director Scott Frakes said the new unit serves as a model for current standards in community correctional centers. “This addition puts Nebraska at the forefront in terms of how correctional centers are designed and how women are managed in correctional settings.”

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Nebraska State Penitentiary to donate blood on March 13th! The Nebraska Community Blood Bank collected a total of two gallons from 16 teammates, five of which were first time donors. Congratulations to Randy Bartelt for hitting a personal milestone of one gallon donated!

Though the blood drive was scheduled in advance, it came at a crucial time as many donations were canceled across Nebraska due to flooding. #NebraskaStrongRead more

NDCS teammate Erika Garcia drove down to Lincoln from York, to help man the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency Call Center.

Her dedication to helping those who've lost everything due to the flooding is much appreciated.

She's also been helpful in assisting Spanish speaking flood victims in need of support.

On Friday, Governor Pete Ricketts and the Nebraska Broadcasters Association (NBA) will highlight a major flood relief drive in partnership with the American Red Cross. The statewide “#NebraskaStrong Drive for Flood Relief” is led by NBA member radio and TV stations who are asking their audiences to donate to the American Red Cross to aid the ongoing recovery efforts.

A phone bank will be open from 5:00am through 11:00pm on Friday to facilitate donations.

To donate on Friday, call toll free: 1-844-278-8555.

This phone line will only be available on Friday, March 22nd.
