Eight months ago, fitness trainer Tim (TC) Collins was approached by the owner of Body Masters Fitness where he works, to take over a contract at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) teaching a Strength and Conditioning course. At the time Collins wasn’t sure what he was getting into, or if he had the time to commit. Today, he looks forward to the time he spends with the young men and the rewards he gets out of it.

On March 28, 2019, The Lincoln Correctional Center hosted motivational speaker Kevin Kush who delivered a powerful presentation on the “Doors of Opportunity” to a gymnasium full of both incarcerated individuals and staff.

Kush identified the steps to getting opportunities to present themselves and how to go for those opportunities.

"It’s up to you to take advantage of the opportunities presented to you and to look for those open doors" Kush told those in attendance.

Family, friends, and teammates gathered at the Nebraska Staff Training Academy on April 12, 2019, to celebrate pre-service class 319’s completion of training.

As the NDCS Communications Manager and a new hire myself, I was personally honored to have been part of this class and am thankful for the shared experiences with my classmates. Our class included corporals and officers, caseworkers, administrative and staff assistants, a food service specialist, a dentist, and a physician.

Class 319 was led by Training Specialists Garrett Cook and Mary Jo Bean.

Chances are good you have crossed paths with Staff Assistant Annette Powers. Powers greets most new hires on day one to issue their uniforms.

Powers was recently recognized for achieving 40 years of service to the State of Nebraska. She started her state career with the State College Board in 1979, moved to the Department of Administrative Services Division of Communications in 1988, and then to Surplus Property in 1991. All her various roles helped prepare her for her final move to NDCS Purchasing in 2006.
