For the last decade, Lieutenant Jacob Harkendorff has dedicated his career to serving his community. He worked in the fire and water restoration business before applying to the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) to be an officer. Since he hired on, he promoted to corporal, sergeant and is currently a lieutenant at Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI).

When one door closes, another one opens. That’s what transitioning jobs was like for Registered Nurse Becky Brinson when the urgent care clinic she worked at for more than 26 years closed down. She looked to the future and stepped into a new career at the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC). “I started at NDCS in 2017. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Vocational Life Skills (VLS) grantee ReConnect is doing great work to keep the incarcerated population at the Community Corrections Center-Omaha (CCC-O) and other facilities engaged using long-distance learning. ReConnect Executive Director LaVon Stennis Williams wasted no time implementing two self-guided classes, Success Prep and Keys to Success. These classes have been well received by the participants. Williams also recently donated treats to CCC-O to show her appreciation for the teammates there she works with.
