Please join us in celebrating the retirement of Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC)/Diagnostic and Evaluation Center/Community Corrections Center – Lincoln, safety specialist, Jeff Salomons. With over 35 years at NDCS, Salomons began his career in March of 1986 at the LCC. He’s held positions such as corporal, sergeant and unit caseworker before becoming a safety specialist. Salomons was also in the 24th Medical Unit of the Nebraska National Guard. His last day with the department is August 27, 2021. Congratulations to these women for graduating from the Intentional Peer Support (IPS) program through a partnership with Mental Health Association of Nebraska at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women. IPS helps individuals recover from mental illness, addiction or trauma with the assistance of someone who has similar life experiences.

A big thank you to these guys for power washing chairs, on top of their other duties, such as cleaning their housing unit at the Community Corrections Center – Lincoln (CCC-L). They have been proclaimed as the “Sanitation Kings” by team members at CCC-L.

These three gentlemen have been meeting every morning with Case Manager Jacob Medley to go over daily tasks. Team members have noted that these three make a positive impact on the housing unit’s sanitation. CCC-L and the department appreciate all their hard work. #MakeADifferenceRead more

Team members from the Community Corrections Center – Lincoln (CCC-L) and staff from the Mental Health Association of Nebraska (MHA-NE) visited the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW) to give a presentation to approximately 70 incarcerated women about the transition process from NCCW to the CCC-L, where the population is allowed to participate in work opportunities in the community.

Lieutenant Ronald Bailey and Electrician Michael Thomsen were recognized for their 40 years of service to NDCS. Both individuals bring a vast amount of knowledge and experience to the Nebraska State Penitentiary and NDCS. These gentlemen are greatly valued by their team members.

Team Member Spotlight:

Estela Finn serves a key role in NDCS as a translator. She provided much needed assistance to the state during the 2019 flooding and was honored this year for her “Excellence in Leadership” during COVID-19. Finn was instrumental in making sure the agency’s key messages were communicated to Spanish-speaking members of the incarcerated population. She has proven to be an invaluable resource to the department and to the state, lending her talents to situations that might otherwise require outside resources to address.
