New 100-bed minimum-security dorm opens at NSP

February 25, 2021 (Lincoln, Neb.) – For an initial group of inmates at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP), it is moving day. Around one dozen men are relocating to a newly built 100-bed dormitory. In addition to sleeping quarters and a large day area, the minimum-security unit also boasts additional rooms to provide clinical treatment and other programs. February 25, 2021 (York, Neb.) – A video visitation program will launch today at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW). The pilot project is the second such program of its type to be initiated by the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) in as many weeks.

February 25, 2021 (Lincoln, Neb.) – An inmate who left the Community Corrections Center – Lincoln on February 10, 2021 has been arrested by the Omaha Police Department. Davaughn Johnson #76406 was taken into custody around 6:00 p.m. on February 23, 2021 at 112th and Ellison.

Johnson started serving his sentence on August 29, 2012. He was sentenced to 13 years and two months to 23 years for multiple charges out of Lancaster County that include: accessory to a felony (...Read more

Frakes announced that seven staff members with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) are positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19). The staff members are employed at the following locations: Community Corrections Center – Lincoln (3), Lincoln Correctional Center (3) and the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (1). February 16, 2021 (Lincoln, Neb.) – An inmate who failed to return to the Community Corrections Center-Lincoln (CCC-L) more than a month ago has been arrested by the Omaha Police Department. Anna Berg #392332 was taken into custody during a traffic stop at 42nd and G Street in Omaha on the afternoon of February 15, 2021. NCYF inmates moved to OCC due to boiler issue

February 14, 2021 (Omaha, Neb.) Fifty-nine inmates living at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) have been moved to the Omaha Correctional Center (OCC). Earlier today, it was noted that the boilers at NCYF were not operating at a level sufficient to fully heat the institution. Given the frigid outdoor temperatures, the decision was made to relocate inmates and staff members to OCC.
