November 5, 2021 (Lincoln, Neb.) – An inmate missing from the Community Corrections Center – Lincoln (CCC-L) has been returned to the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS). Michael Fitzgerald #72646 was picked up by members of the Lincoln Police Department early on the morning of November 4, 2021. He was reported missing the previous day.

Fitzgerald started his sentence on December 1, 2010. He was sentenced 16 to 22 years on two charges of burglary...Read more

November 3, 2021 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Authorities have been notified about an inmate missing from the Community Corrections Center – Lincoln (CCC-L). Michael Fitzgerald #72646 did not return to the facility this morning following his work assignment. Upon contact, his employer indicated that Fitzgerald had not reported for work as scheduled.

October 28, 2021 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Authorities have been notified about an inmate missing from the Community Corrections Center – Lincoln (CCC-L). Austin Risor #84566 did not return from his work assignment this morning. For a while, staff were able to monitor his location through the electronic monitoring device he was wearing. Once in the area of N 33rd and Superior Street, he removed the device, which was recovered by staff.

October 28, 2021 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Water service has been restored to the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) following repairs to several pipes on the campus. Water was initially turned off at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 26. Facility maintenance workers and an external repair crews worked through pouring rain on Wednesday to identify breaches in the pipes and get them fixed. Water was restored to all but one housing unit by that afternoon. The facility was completely back on normal...Read more

October 23, 2021 (Lincoln, Neb.) – A fire inside a cell room at the Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC) resulted in serious injuries* to an inmate and one staff member today. Both are being treated at the hospital.

The fire broke out shortly after 11:00 a.m. Based on preliminary information, it appears the fire was intentionally set by the inmate using a TV cord. The resulting smoke forced the evacuation of 16 inmates and two staff members in one quadrant of the affected housing...Read more

October 12, 2021 (Lincoln, Neb.) – An inmate at the Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC) went to the hospital for treatment of a serious injury*, resulting from an assault by another inmate.

The assault occurred on October 11, 2021.

October 11, 2021 (Omaha, Neb.) – An inmate assaulted a staff member at the Omaha Correctional Center (OCC), resulting in a serious injury*.

The assault occurred on October 10, 2021. Two staff members were involved in restraining an inmate who exhibited signs of being intoxicated. The inmate headbutted one of the staff members in the face. That staff member was treated at the hospital for a broken nose.

October 9, 2021 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Director of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) Scott R. Frakes announced that an inmate in his 40s died today at a hospital in Omaha. The inmate tested positive for COVID-19 prior to being hospitalized.
