Volunteer Services builds meaningful pathways for community members to invest their time in the rehabilitation of incarcerated individuals through a variety of programs and community partnerships. NDCS is fortunate to have community partnerships with many organizations and individuals who share their time and skills to lead transformative programs, services and events at facilities across the State of Nebraska.

We offer multiple types of opportunities for individuals to volunteer as community partners at nine facilities in Lincoln, McCook, Omaha, Tecumseh and York. The majority of our community partners volunteer through a community organization that partners with NDCS. Others volunteer to fill a specific need for the NDCS population, such as proctoring GED tests or facilitating non-clinical programs.

Our community partners bring a diverse set of skills and life experiences to help create better tomorrows for incarcerated individuals and our communities. Serving as role models, they enhance the culture and promote community understanding regarding the correctional experience.

Thank you in advance for dedicating your time and partnering with NDCS to keep people safe.

Volunteer Services FAQs

Q: How do I submit an application?

A: Volunteer Services uses an online application through a database called Volgistics. Please scroll down to the "Ready to Volunteer? Contact Us!" and click the I'm Ready to Volunteer button.

Q: How do I know that my application has been received?

A: Once your application is complete, you will see a confirmation page and receive an email from Volgistics. You can also log into your Volgistics account, which is only established with the completion of the application *NOTE: Use the same email and password you choose during the application process.

Q: How long will it take to process my application?

A: Processing times can vary. Our goal is to complete the application process within 30 days. A Volunteer Services team member will contact you regarding any questions. If approved, Volunteer Services will contact you to schedule your volunteer orientation session.   Thank you for your patience during the process.

Q: How often do I have to submit an application to volunteer?

A: Our current process requires a bi-annual application review and an annual orientation refresher for all community partnerships. With the Volgistics database, automatic renewal reminders will be sent up to 45 days in advance of your annual date. We hope this reminder will ensure a smooth renewal process for all our community partners.

Q: What if I forgot my password to the Volgistics account?

A: To reset your password, use the reset password link on Volgistics. If you still require further assistance please contact Volunteer Services at DCS.VolunteerServices@Nebraska.gov
