The month of November is a time when the sacrifices made by the men and women who have served in the armed forces are remembered in a special way. A road crew at the Work Ethic Camp (WEC) helped to construct a veterans memorial in Holbrook, Nebraska, for a dedication ceremony this month. Holbrook is now a Purple Heart Trail Village, honoring the many veterans of Furnas County and beyond.

Each year, NDCS recognizes a teammate whose service goes above and beyond as a special teams member. This year’s recipient of the Specials Teams Member of the Year Award was Unit Case Manager Mike Dorton, who plays an important role in the agency’s Special Operations Response Team (SORT).

As a prior coordinator and still active member of SORT, Dorton has also volunteered for the agency’s other special teams. His leadership and willingness to put in extra effort make him a valued asset to each of those groups, the facility where he works and NDCS at large. Thank you for the important contribution you make!

There’s a whole lot of behind-the-scenes work that this team does to support operations at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI).

Whether maintaining the grounds around the facility, painting lines in the parking lot, keeping vehicles in good condition or welding for a variety of projects, the vehicle maintenance team takes pride in performing quality work. When winter storms come they’re the first to clear snow, and in the warmer months they’re busy with mowing and projects on the facility grounds.
