Unit Caseworker Lorna Ellinger was a recipient of the Leadership Award at the recent NDCS Annual Awards. With over three decades at NDCS, Ellinger is a knowledgeable and caring role model, trusted to train new team members at the Community Corrections Center – Lincoln (CCC-L). She has served on the CCC-L Employee Activity Committee for a decade and goes above and beyond for her team. Her teammates note that Ellinger is one of the most caring people and is proof that leadership is not a title, but that leadership comes from the heart. Caitlyn McIlvain, administrative assistant at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW), was selected as a recipient of the 2021 Team Member of the Year Award. McIlvain is a self-motivated professional who always displays a positive attitude. Team members note that she goes above and beyond to build positive relationships through her compassion and desire to assist others. We’re acknowledging two accolades for NCYF Warden Loretta Wells. Not only was she recently recognized as an outstanding leader for NDCS (as seen in this photo), but last month she received the 2021 Spirit of Excellence Award from the African American Correctional Officer Association.

That award is presented to those who demonstrate excellence in leadership development while promoting diversity and inclusion in their workplace. Warden Wells started her career at NDCS in 1996 as a correctional officer. It’s #throwbackthursday and we’re looking back to 2019 when the new 160-bed female living unit at the Community Corrections Center-Lincoln (CCC-L) opened, providing a safe facility for women to positively transition back into our community.

Recently, Brad Hall and team received the Dewberry Justice Segment’s award for the CCC-L expansion design. They also won the highly competitive internal Chairman’s Award for Innovation, which recognizes a creative project that has made a difference in the community.

October is Center of Operational Excellence (COE) Month and today we're putting a spotlight on the NDCS Process Improvement Team: Shaun Grantski, Andrew Spady, Eric Kasik, Eric Spry and Alyssa Payton. They are currently working on multiple projects to create engagement, add value and give people a voice by using Lean Six Sigma methodology and customer-focused efforts to bring about positive change.
