Team members at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) hosted its annual Employee Activities Committee (EAC) barbeque on May 8 in honor of Correctional Employee Appreciation week.

The menu consisted of pulled pork sandwiches, homemade potato salad, baked beans, soda or water and Ice Cream sundaes. Approximately 350 to 400 TSCI team members enjoyed a meal. ALPHA Volunteers showed their support with fresh fruit and raffles.Read more

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Corporal Isaac Jordan prepares for count at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP). Jordan has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since 2015. His job duties include supervising, monitoring and keeping up with incarcerated individuals’ daily schedules. “It’s called corrections because we’re helping these people correct their behavior,” Jordan said. “I try to act as a kind of role model.” #NDCSTeamMemberSpotlightRead more

Prison Fellowship hosted a Celebration of Hope at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW) on April 20. Incarcerated women enjoyed inspirational speakers, fellowship and music by 513 Hope.Read more

The Nebraska State Penitentiary’s (NSP) Employee Appreciation Committee (EAC) launched Corrections Appreciation Month off in a huge way by providing an all-you-can eat barbeque on May 1, serving all three shifts.

Team members could choose between a chicken breast, a foot-long hot dog, a hamburger, a cheeseburger or any combination of all four. Fair also included baked beans, chips and cookies.

It is estimated the EAC served around 300 people. Randy Bartelt, EAC chair, indicated that this large of an undertaking would not be possible without the skillful help from the 11-member EAC team.Read more

Greater Omaha Chamber’s 40th leadership class held their Justice Seminar at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) on April 19. Leadership Omaha is one of the longest running leadership programs in the nation designed to develop effective leaders who will strengthen and transform the community. Participants spent the morning at NCYF exploring the juvenile justice system. The morning included presentations by NCYF team members, a youth panel consisting of NCYF inmates and a tour of the facility. ReConnect, Inc. sponsored a two-part event at Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) where the incarcerated youth watched the movie The Tuskegee Airmen on March 16.

Then, on March 30, the youth met with the last Tuskegee Airman in Nebraska – Corporal Robert Holts, to discuss the movie and ask questions. Team members, youth and ReConnect, Inc. representatives gave Cpl. Holts a book, a mug and a t-shirt to thank him for his service and to thank him for taking the time to tell his story to the youth.Read more
