The Corrections Leadership Scholarship Program—a partnership between Peru State College and NDCS—provides a unique opportunity for students to gain real-world experience paired with high-quality academic learning at Peru State College’s newly renovated Criminal Justice Learning and Engagement Opportunity Center.

Students accepted into the program receive $15,000 per year in scholarship awards, as well as a paid position at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution while completing their degree.

Compassionate, dependable, professional. These are a few of the words team members use to describe Lieutenant (Lt.) Jason Krueger, who was named Supervisor of the Quarter at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI).

Lt. Krueger goes above and beyond to develop his team, takes time to listen to concerns and immediately acts to resolve any issues. Staff know if they have a question or problem they can rely on him to assist with solving it quickly and efficiently. Congratulations to the Nebraska State Penitentiary, Tecumseh State Correctional Institution, Work Ethic Camp, Staff Training Academy and Central Office for earning re-accreditation from the American Correctional Association (ACA). NDCS representatives accepted re-accreditation certificates at the ACA Winter Conference this month.

The ACA is a private, non-profit, non-governmental trade association and accrediting body for the corrections industry, the oldest and largest such association in the world.

Men at the Community Corrections Center – Lincoln heard a message of perseverance and redemption last weekend from speaker Ricky Simmons.

A former professional football player and wide receiver for Nebraska, Simmons centered his message less on the field and more on the lessons he learned from his incarcerations and addiction. While incarcerated, Simmons began living his life driven by a simple but transformative concept: Take responsibility for your actions. Driving down any Nebraska road, you’re sure to spot a product made by CSI: Nebraska license plates. These, along with a wide variety of goods and services, are produced by around 500 incarcerated men and women within NDCS facilities who are employed by CSI, the 100% self-supporting correctional industries program for NDCS. Through their work, these individuals develop marketable job skills and a positive work ethic that help them become productive members of the community upon their release.
