Those who work alongside Corporal (Cpl.) Donald Diehl know him as a dedicated team member willing to go the extra mile. His supervisors note that he plays a key role in maintaining the cleanliness of the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI). In ever-changing conditions, Cpl. Diehl is highly adaptable and takes the initiative to ensure his duties are completed. It's exciting to welcome a large class of NDCS team members and to see them acquire the knowledge and skills for a successful career in corrections. Over the next six weeks, we will be following along with Class 222 as this cohort completes pre-service training.

As the food service director at the Work Ethic Camp (WEC), Clarice Shields plays a key role in the facility’s operations. For her efforts, Shields received the WEC Supervisor of the Year award. She is known for setting the bar high and encouraging engagement among her team.

Shields models behaviors and habits that inspire others to grow personally and professionally. Team members note that she consistently provides a teachable environment for both staff and the incarcerated population.

Congratulations to these graduates of the Active Parenting: First Five Years program at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women. Taught by Parenting Coordinator Katie Hanquist, the class equipped the women with information and skills to prepare their children to thrive. Over the course of eight weeks, they learned about the stages of child development, along with parenting skills that encourage positive behavior and growth.

The University of Nebraska at Kearney signature blue is prominently featured in the university's student dining space thanks to the expertise of the CSI Chair/Wood Shop located at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP).

The shop employs an average of 30 incarcerated men, who take pride in the quality and craftsmanship of their products. Along with assembling various types of chairs, they also manufacture new wood furnishings, such as desks and bookcases.
