Thanks to the hard work of Facilities Maintenance Leader (FML) John Kowalski, Community Corrections Center Omaha (CCCO) remains in good repair, regardless of the season.
Kowalski has been with NDCS for more than 10 years, starting as a Corporal at the Youth Regional Center. He has been taking care of the building and grounds of CCCO since 2016.
Kowalski’s supervisor, Assistant Warden David Erickson, commended Kowalski for his hard work and reliability.
“CCCO was built back in 1985,” said Erickson. “Kowalski does an amazing job constantly tackling issues to maintain the building.”
From fixing holes in the roof, repairing machines, to training and supervising ground and maintenance crews of incarcerated individuals, Kowalski does a little bit of everything. He attributes his success to his strong work ethic and continual learning. He came to the facility with a background as an electrician in the Navy and has shared that experience with numerous incarcerated individuals. They in turn have helped teach him other trades such as plumbing.
“You never stop learning,” Kowalski said.
In addition to his work at CCCO, Kowalski also fills in as a Corrections Officer at Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) to help out.
