October 30, 2020 (Tecumseh, Neb.) – An inmate assaulted a staff member at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) on Thursday, October 29, 2020, resulting in serious* injuries.

The assault happened after the staff member had given the inmate multiple directives to return to his housing unit and to stop blocking the doorway. He refused. The inmate punched the staff member multiple times, knocking her to the ground. Additional personnel responded to the scene....Read more

October 29, 2020 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Today, Director Scott R. Frakes announced that three staff members with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) are positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19). The staff members are employed at the following locations: Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC), Diagnostic and Evaluation Center (DEC) and the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW). Frakes announced that four staff members with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) are positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19). The staff members are employed at the following locations: Work Ethic Camp (WEC), Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP), Tecumseh State Correctional Institution and Cornhusker State Industries (CSI). October 28, 2020 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Sylvarena Mitchell (26), a food service specialist at the Community Corrections Center – Lincoln (CCC-L), was arrested by the Nebraska State Patrol on October 28, 2020 for unauthorized communication with a prisoner (Neb. Rev. Stat. §83-417).

She has been employed by the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since September 14, 2020 and has only worked at CCC-L. Mitchell was booked into the Lancaster County jail.

October 27, 2020 (Omaha, Neb.) – An inmate who discharged from the Omaha Correctional Center (OCC) on Monday, October 26, 2020 is back in custody. The Nebraska State Patrol arrested Amjad Almusa #211436 in Omaha this morning.

Almusa had a detainer, which would have required his transfer to the Norfolk Regional Center upon completion of his prison sentence. That detainer was overlooked and he left OCC yesterday morning.

October 26, 2020 (McCook, Neb.) – The Work Ethic Camp (WEC) in McCook, NE is on quarantine status, after an inmate tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19). All other inmates will have the opportunity to test for the virus. Testing is voluntary.
