October 23, 2017 (Lincoln, Neb.) – The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) regularly partners with the Nebraska Department of Labor (NDOL) to host career fairs and recruit quality talent to the agency’s team.

NDCS has collaborated with NDOL on 10 career fairs since January, with two more scheduled in the near future. The next fairs, which are free to any and all job seeker, will be held Oct. 24 in Seward and Nov. 1 in Nebraska City.

“These job fairs open people’s eyes and show them that we’re right in their backyards,” NDCS Agency Recruiter Denise Jensen said. “They’re beneficial to us, to the Department of Labor and to potential employees.”

Open lines of communication are essential to the successful partnership between the agencies. For example, after NDOL toured the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) last year, recruiters had a better idea of the kinds of teammates NDCS is recruiting.

“We’re tapping the workforce to find those individuals that can protect public safety and deliver programming at correctional facilities; that can relate on a different level,” NDOL Regional Manager Karen Stohs said.

NDOL goes above and beyond to help applicants find the right fit. State applications can be lengthy and NDOL recruiters walk potential employees through the step-by-step process. When someone comes in looking for help, NDOL team members sit down with computers right on site.

“As state agencies, we’re all working towards a common goal,” NDCS Director Scott R. Frakes said. “I appreciate NDOL Director Albin’s commitment to recruitment, teamwork and collaboration.”

In addition to NDOL, NDCS also collaborates on career fairs with the Nebraska Department of Veterans’ Affairs and the US Department of Defense.
