June 27, 2023 (Lincoln, Neb.) – Michael Thomas #216656, age 46, died Sunday, June 25, 2023. He was found unresponsive in his cell at the Reception and Treatment Center (RTC). Staff members initiated CPR and contacted emergency medical services. Upon their arrival, he was pronounced deceased. The Nebraska State Patrol is conducting an investigation into his death.
Thomas’ sentence began on May 11, 2023. He was serving a sentence of 0 to 48 months for possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, resisting arrest and attempted tampering with a witness out of Lancaster County.
As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS), a grand jury will conduct an investigation.
