NDCS Team Member Spotlight: LPN Brenda Haith
NDCS Team Member Spotlight: LPN Brenda Haith
The word ‘family’ is the first thing that comes to mind when License Practical Nurse (LPN) Brenda Haith thinks about her time at the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS). “Mental Health Unit Caseworker Gigi Paul, medical records teammates Wendy Karas and also Katie Whiting are all my right-hand women. With mental health, security and unit staff all working together daily to make everything run smoothly, we have to have a very open line of communication between all areas so that we can be a cohesive unit.”
Haith noted her time working at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) has prepared her to always be ready to respond to anything. “Our days can go from zero to 10 at any given moment.”
After more than 20 years of dedication to correctional nursing at TSCI and also at the Douglas County Jail, she remembers accepting the position because she wanted to do something different than other people in her career. “It has been very rewarding in many ways,” said Haith.
Haith said a lot of her time is also heavily focused on educating and teaching the incarcerated population and custody team members who work with her in the restrictive housing unit (RHU) about treatments and care for patients. “We have to be very open to new and different tasks daily.”
The staff work together as a team every day. “We are a family in RHU,” said Haith.
Thank you all for what you do!
