November 2, 2018 (LINCOLN, Neb.)  – Today, Director Scott R. Frakes announced the appointment of Laura Strimple as chief of staff for the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS).

Strimple will oversee the areas of research, communications, records, and policy development and accreditation. She has served as communications director since joining NDCS.

“NDCS is an agency of dedicated and hard-working individuals. It is a privilege to continue working with them in this new role,” said Strimple.

Prior to NDCS, Strimple was the assistant secretary of state. In addition to managing several divisions for that office, she also served as interim deputy for elections and oversaw special projects.

Strimple began her career in broadcasting and worked in both Lincoln and Omaha for more than 15 years as a news producer. She fills the vacancy left by Dawn-Renee Smith, who recently promoted from chief of staff to deputy director for programs at NDCS.

Strimple’s appointment went into effect October 29, 2018.
