Inmate dies at hospital

September 16, 2020 (Omaha, Neb.) Jose Cruz #75857, age 59, died today at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). He was incarcerated at the Omaha Correctional Center (OCC).

Cruz started serving his sentence on May 24, 2012. He was serving 14- to 24-years on charges out of Madison County that included four counts of delivery/intent to deliver a hazardous drug (methamphetamine), one count of conspiracy to deliver (methamphetamine)...Read more

Frakes announced that six staff members with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) are positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19). Frakes announced that four staff members with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) are positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19). Uptick in COVID cases leads to quarantine at DEC

September 11, 2020 (Lincoln, Neb.) – The Diagnostic and Evaluation Center (DEC) in Lincoln is under quarantine, due to an increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases among inmates. More than 200 inmates agreed to undergo testing at the facility on Thursday, September 10. Thirty of those results were positive and came from multiple housing units.
